New York Giants’ Sterling Shepard, Corey...

The New York Giants will be without Sterling Shepard on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals as the wide receiver was officially ruled out as the result of a concussion — his second in a four-week span.

Shepard will now miss his second straight game as the result of his latest concussion and despite obvious progress, could sit out one more week if the team decides to be understandably cautious with the youngster.

In Shepard’s absence, veteran Golden Tate will once again step into the slot, while Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler and Darius Slayton will see additional reps.

In addition to Shepard, rookie cornerback/kick returner Corey Ballentine has also been ruled out with a concussion. It’s likely that he will be replaced by either Latimer, Slayton or safety Jabrill Peppers as a return man.

On the positive side of things for the Giants, running back Saquon Barkley (knee) and tight end Evan Engram (knee) received no designation, meaning they will be a full-go come Sunday even though head coach Pat Shurmur refused to acknowledge it.

“He’s available,” Shurmur told reporters. “We’ll see if he’s back. If he is, he’ll be ready to go. I just choose not to tell you right now.”

Finally, the Giants will send running back Wayne Gallman (concussion) and defensive lineman Olsen Pierre (concussion) to an independent neurological consultant this afternoon to determine their availability. Both practiced fully this week, but have not been cleared for game activity as of now.
