Is letting Dak Prescott play out his final year a...

The Dallas Cowboys game of chicken with quarterback Dak Prescott seems to have come to a stalemate with both willing to let him play out the season.

The Dallas Cowboys have put themselves in a corner with this Dak Prescott situation. Allowing the Philadelphia Eagles to sign quarterback Carson Wentz to a $128 million four-year extension. The new money comes out to $32 million per year which is about $2 million less than Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson’s $34 million per season.

Prescott seems to be willing to play out the season and prove that he is worth the money. But with that being said it looks like the Cowboys might have lucked out if that is the case. There are three things that could happen here, Prescott could play well and force Dallas to pay up, he could also underperform which gives the Cowboys the ability to pay him less.

The other possible situation could be that he plays under his $2 million contract for the season which would give the Cowboys the ability to pay running back Ezekiel Elliott and wide receiver Amari Cooper what they want. Then wait until the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is negotiated, and who knows how that will play out.

With it looking more and more like Prescott will play out the contract each day. One can only hope that the Cowboys are looking ahead, maybe with some information on the CBA negotiations that we don’t. If that’s the case then this would be a very smart move for the Cowboys.

Now time will only tell if this is true or not but having Prescott play out his contract could be the best possible move for both sides. Prescott is happy and willing to bet on himself while the Cowboys get to save money and pay two of their other star offensive players and possibly others before a new CBA goes into effect.
