Atlanta Falcons offer coaching job to Arthur Smith

The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly extended a job offer to Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to become their next head coach, ESPN NFL insider Dianna Russini reports. If hired, Smith would replace Dan Quinn, who was fired by Atlanta along with general manager Thomas Dimitroff in August after an 0-5 start.

“The Atlanta Falcons have made an offer to Arthur Smith to become their next head coach per sources. Smith has been the offensive coordinator for the Titans the last 2 seasons,” Russini tweeted on Friday.

Atlanta finished 4-12 this season under interim head coach Raheem Morris.

Tasked with improving Tennessee’s efforts offensively as the Titans’ play-caller, Smith helped the franchise fourth in the league in scoring this season, averaging 30.7 points per game. Only the Baltimore Ravens, with mobile quarterback Lamar Jackson, rushed for more yards per game in the NFL than the Titans, who are carried by Derrick Henry.

Henry has led the NFL in rushing back to back years and became only the eighth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season this fall.
