Seattle Seahawks slip in Touchdown Wire’s Week 4...

After losing to the New Orleans Saints at home, the Seahawks have slipped back in Touchdown Wire’s latest NFL power rankings. Doug Farrar now has listed Seattle listed at No. 14 heading into Week 4 of the regular season.

“Pete Carroll should have known Sunday wouldn’t go well when he was beaned in the nose with a football during pre-game drills,” writes Farrar. “Seattle lost to the Drew Brees-less Saints 33-27, and it didn’t have to go that way. New Orleans had a 27-7 lead halfway through the third quarter, and as has been the practice for Carroll and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, the coaching staff only allowed Russell Wilson to open up the passing game when things were looking hopeless. Wilson ended the game with 32 completions on 50 attempts for 406 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added two rushing touchdowns, becoming the first NFL player since 1950 with more than 400 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, more than 50 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in a single game.”

“But the Seahawks have rarely let Wilson do his thing when the team is in a favorable position, and one has to wonder,” Farrar continued. “Why did the Seahawks sign him to a four-year, $140 million contract extension in April, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time, if they wanted him to be nothing more than a game-maintainer?”

The Seahawks have a chance to redeem themselves on the road Sunday when they face off against the Cardinals in Arizona for their first divisional matchup of the year.
